I created this freebie to benefit both my Main Idea Interactive Notebook and my Soil Interactive Notebook.  Students glue two main idea pockets into their interactive notebook and then sort detail cards into each pocket. This was a great activity that got my students thinking about how specific details support specific main ideas.

This resource teaches kids to find the main idea of a text and the supporting details to that main idea. You can use these cards in small group discussions or have the students work in pairs. Each pair of students is given four task cards. Each student in the pair solves a task card and then switch their cards.
