1875 CdV of Celestine Galli-Marie by Reutlinger. Mezzo-soprano Celestine Galli-Marie was born in Paris Nov 1840 and died in Vence 22nd Sept 1905. She made her debut in Strasbourg during 1859 and created numerous roles, especially – At the Opera-Comique, Paris, Mignon on 17th Nov 1866 and Carmen on 3rd March 1875.

1924 - as Lady Blanche in Princess Ida. Contralto Bertha Lewis was born in London on 12th May 1887 and died in Cambridge on 8th May 1931 from injuries from a car accident. She made her debut with the D'Oyly Carte Company in 1906. In May 1931 she was a passenger in Henry Lytton's motor-car when it crashed. Lytton was injured but survived, Lewis was taken unconscious to a nursing home where she died four days later.

Italian postcard featuring an 1898 photograph of the composer Pietro Mascagni.  Pietro Mascagni was born in Livorno, Tuscany, Italy on 7th Dec 1863 and died in the Hotel Plaza di Roma on 2nd Aug 1945.  Although he composed numerous operas he is best known for 'Cavalleria Rusticana' which had its world première 17th May 1890 at the Teatro Costanzi in Rome.
