Die gekehlte, an der Spitze zweischneidige Rückenklinge im oberen Drittel geätzt, gebläut und vergoldet. Vergoldetes Messingbügelgefäß mit Löwenkopfknauf, Lederhilze mit Kupferdrahtwicklung. Gravierte Messingscheide mit zwei Trageringen. Länge cm.

native Ethiopian Shotel sword - 69cms across the deeply curved blade. The hilt is cut from a single piece of Rhino horn. The blade is set with a full tang that is peened over a large silver domed pomme. The scabbard is very well preserved and slightly shrunken with age. It is constructed from leather and was dyed an earthy red colour.

Ottoman yatagan / yataghan, 19th century, watered-steel single-edged slightly curved blade with single fuller, the chappe with cusped cartouche containing elegant arabesque, the interstices with small leaf-motifs, one side of the blade with cusped cartouche issuing palmette and containing later owner's inscription, Sahib Kuchak Husni Agha, with possibly associated silver hilt of typical form engraved with floral motifs, the silver scabbard elegantly worked in repoussé, 31½in. (80cm.) long.
