SS-Gruppenfuehrer und Generalleutnant der Waffen-SS Paul "Papa" Hausser, the "father" of the Waffen SS, decorates SS-Untersturmführer Ludwig Kepplinger with the King's Cross of the Iron Cross for gallantry during the invasion of France. Kepplinger, who was severely wounded twice, reached the rank of SS-Sturmbannführer and was killed  in Villiers-Charlemagne, France, on Aug 6, 1944.
