The Marshall Plan (1948-1951), also known as the European Recovery Program, was a program sponsored by the US  in which the US aided the economies of 17 Western European countries in order to create conditions in which democracies could prosper in fear of communist parties appealing to voters due to the poor conditions in Europe at the time (poverty, unemployment, and dislocation of the post-World War II period).
