.The Pillars of the Earth is a departure from author Ken Follett's typical suspense thriller. However, like his spy novels and fast-paced adventure tales, The Pillars of the Earth is meticulously researched and offers an insider's glimpse at the richly detailed world that his characters inhabit. The world he presents in this saga-length novel is England during the twelfth century. Don't be put off by the book's length of it's subject matter. It is fascinating, and the pages fly by.

I love Ken Follett books. "Fall of Giants" is the first book of a century trilogy by Ken Follet. A large book but easy to read and very entertaining. The first book covers WW I. Ken Follet is an expert at making history interesting!

Love all these Ken Follett books from the Pillars of the Earth on.they are like historical soap operas. Contrary to the heaviness of the titles, these are page turners--several steps above TV.

Just finished reading this. Love the sagas :-)

I'm a big fan of Ken Follett. He is a master storyteller-this book was surprisingly different than I expected. Like his other books I've read-he does not hold back in describing any situation-is definitely not PG

Novels by Ken Follett usually feature strong female characters and vicious villains and sometimes both rolled in one as in this book.
