Southern gastric brooding frog, by Peter Schouten. Last seen in 1985 in Australia, this was one of two such frogs found to raise its young in its stomach. Females swallow the eggs, and alter the chemistry of their stomachs so that tadpoles can develop in the absence of acidic digestive juices. Then they give birth through their mouths. There is a current effort to resurrect this potentially-extinct species.

By using a laboratory technique known as somatic cell nuclear transfer, scientists have produce cloned embryos of the extinct frog Rheobatrachus silus.

Red-eyed tree frogs are nocturnal inhabitants of the rainforests that are located in Central and South America as well as Southern Mexico. These amphibians have bright red eyes, bright green bodies, orange toes and bright yellow and blue sides.
