At the end of summer I always get this sadness -- thinking I did not live the summer enough -- too much work, too many distractions .. During the past years I visited our local small town farmers market where this very old lady sold flowers. Since she was there more for fun than profit she had pretty reasonable prices and I used to buy bunches of flowers (since I have no more own garden here in Neuburg). Those flowers reminded me to always have flowers in my heart and the summer in me ...

Pollia condensata ('marble berry') a wild plant that grows in the forests of Ethiopia and other African countries and which can’t be eaten raw, cooked or turned into a beverage, has metallic fruit which stay a vibrant blue for years or even decades after being picked. Scientists have discovered that the fruit has no pigment at all and uses nanoscale-sized structures to produce the most intense color ever studied in biological tissue. This miniature ecosystem has been thriving in an almost completely isolated state for more than forty years. It has been watered just once in that time. The original single spiderwort plant has grown and multiplied, putting out seedlings. As it has access to light, it continues to photosynthesize. The water builds up on the inside of the bottle and then rains back down on the plants in a miniature version of the water cycle.
