Still, we know better than to romanticize an imaginary past, right? Perhaps. For all of its purported objectivity, the camera makes an imperfect forensic tool but also a wonderful narrative one. And so for as long as I’ve pursued the medium seriously, I’ve looked for clues about our present, our future, in fleeting glimpses of the past that can still be seen if you look hard enough or drive far enough. Appetite: We are always watching what others consume and what people have an appetite for. Whether it's sex, food, entertainment etc, knowing what other people value gives us an "in". It opens a window into that other person, and it lets us answer their appetites – usually to get something in return. To capture moments that will pass as fast as you can see them, it’s as important to have a good eye as it is to have a camera that you can rely on. “My favourite camera (currently, because this changes from time to time) is the Leica M5 with a Voigtlander 35mm f/2.5 lens.
