Spyros Rennt started out studying electrical and computer engineering. Now, he is a photographer based in Berlin and already released his second book. ‘I just took a different path to get where I’m now’, Spyros says. He feels very disconnected from his former studies and work: ‘I myself forget that I’m an engineer,’ he admits laughing.

Knowledge
Continuing culture is essential so the next generation has the knowledge to pass it on. It’s important for kids to know about culture, country and their elders; connection to their identity and their heritage. I feel a great responsibility as a photographer to capture this within our family.

I’ve never been so in love with photography up until now. I still love filmmaking and want to pursue directing as a career, but right now, photos are my go-to form of creativity and therapy. I hope to start shooting portraits again and I’m actually working on a few concepts right now, so I’m excited to share those soon!

Annie has been fascinated by documenting her surroundings on camera from an early age. Her father used to take a camera with him wherever he went, and he taught his daughter how to shoot pictures – using a Leica M6. After graduating from film school in Boston, USA, Annie now works as a filmmaker and photographer.

When Stewart moved to Paris, his father gave him a special parting gift: a digital camera. Today, he's a portrait and fine art photographer based in London. During lockdown, like many of us, Stewart has had to rely on Zoom for work. However, in a slightly different way than most: He used the programme to take pictures. This resulted in the following photo series, which features a number of amazing high-profile actors.

With a photo you can stop the ineluctable and tyrannical time, a fraction of a second that no one will see again. Sometimes you hope that a moment could last forever, sometimes you wish that time would pass as soon as possible. It’s been a tough period for everyone, but it has helped to show the fragility of the human race and helped us to understand to love the little things we have under our eyes everyday that we undervalue. - Kevin

I escaped to Ystad in Sweden and used the quarantine time for a lot of deep conversations, good music, long walks in nature, a swim in the sea - the first one this year - and loads of Prosecco. I also shot this little photo series for The Wasted Hour, and finally rekindled my love for photography. - Julia

Still, we know better than to romanticize an imaginary past, right? Perhaps. For all of its purported objectivity, the camera makes an imperfect forensic tool but also a wonderful narrative one. And so for as long as I’ve pursued the medium seriously, I’ve looked for clues about our present, our future, in fleeting glimpses of the past that can still be seen if you look hard enough or drive far enough.

Certain Instagram accounts convey the impression that can you get to know a person. Not because they keep pointing the camera on their face in their stories, but because their pictures share their perspective. Rich’s photos create an intimate feeling of his surroundings, and with this article he takes us on two journeys. The first is to Japan, a country he first visited two years ago.

Appetite: We are always watching what others consume and what people have an appetite for. Whether it's sex, food, entertainment etc, knowing what other people value gives us an "in". It opens a window into that other person, and it lets us answer their appetites – usually to get something in return. What I find most interesting is what we choose to be transparent about versus what we hide, what we feel comfortable selling versus what we do not, both as the consumer and observer.

How To Plan
I find myself often worrying about the future and the uncertainties it carries, and I forget that there is a present that needs to be lived. I tend to force myself to make plans by default, to have everything quite organized and controlled. This doesn’t let me live in the present sometimes, because in my mind there is always this need to look for the comforts of planning. Porto Covo makes us forget this constant worry we feel about the future, about time.

How To Dry Basil
When she was 18, Elena left home and wanted to see the world. After being introduced to each other by Desta French, I received my first mail from Elena when she was in New Zealand on her first solo trip. “I rented a car and drove and did whatever I wanted to, and then just camped in my car, very down to earth. I wish I’d had a little more time to explore. I think one month wasn't enough time.”

Cool Eyes
Inspired
To capture moments that will pass as fast as you can see them, it’s as important to have a good eye as it is to have a camera that you can rely on. “My favourite camera (currently, because this changes from time to time) is the Leica M5 with a Voigtlander 35mm f/2.5 lens. Shooting with a rangefinder is the best, in my opinion, for street photography. I like being inspired by the camera I am using, and the M5 does that.

Looking at Francesco’s pictures you can see that he has s an incredible eye for composition and colours, so it’s not secret that photography is his passion. What you might not guess is, that he studied law. It wasn’t until an all-changing encounter two years ago that he discovered his artistic side and decided that his future won’t be studying files but work close to art, design and photography.

"They say the things that finally break you Are the words caught in your throat, And she has years of thoughts not uttered Crammed in the pockets of her coat. A whisperer amongst a world That’s learnt only to speak, Where silence must be broken For the proof that it is weak. But wherein lies the weakness Of keeping words held in your hand? When others listen to reply She listens just to understand.” (Erin Hanson)

Palm Reader by Kao Saephan Kao, the boy who cried wolf, got his name due to his sarcastic personality. He’s from California where he studies photojournalism and conceptual photography. Perhaps its because he’s a cold weather person, that he shoots a lot at night. When we talked about a possible theme for a series we found out, that we both love the Smashing Pumpkins.
